Ins & Outs for 2026
Late last year I was invited by a friend to his ‘Ins & Outs’ party for 2026. The basic premise was that everybody would bring a list or powerpoint of wha...

If you like your Mastodon server and want it to stick around, you should consider donating some money to it, if you can.
We’re still an absolute skeleton crew of 14 people, competing with teams sometimes 100x as large as ours. To get to our humble team size was only possible through the less than 1% community members who donate to Mastodon, a handful larger donations, & EU grants, all of which we are forever […]

I am at my absolute limit for WhatsApp group chats. Stop adding me to them 😔

At the stripe office this week, managed to make a significantly worse espresso with their $4,000 machine than my breville at home, so just saved myself $4k from ever having to “upgrade” 💸

Attending the Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival for “Bike Night” and unfortunately could not lock my bike outside the venue? 💀

TIL Mookie Betts is a professional bowler, and it led to perhaps one of my dumbest jokes:

Every Friday I meet with friends for something we call #paperfriday, where we each take 5 minutes to present an interesting article/project/book/etc that we found that week, followed by a short discussion on it. I tend to present something about Swift or iOS Development, another friend usually […]

Onto the next Writer’s Fest event, UBC’s Night Class, where professors and students guide short writing workshops and read recent works. One of my favourite events last year.

Surprised it’s in a smaller room this year than last year, they always point out the event sells out every year.

3rd day of the Vancouver Writer’s Fest, and got to me one of my all-time favourite authors as a child, Kenneth Oppel! Excited to have gotten my original copies of Airborn, Skybreaker, and Starclimber signed. Read those books to death when I was younger.

Looking forward to picking up his latest […]

Attended the Small File Media Festival this evening in Vancouver. ~30 short films, all limited to a max bitrate of 1.44mb/minute. Lots of creativity, lots of compressed artifacts 😂

They screened new films to this year’s festival, and selections from the past 5 years. The hand-picked selections […]

The if #available(macOS 26, *) { … } checks required to call newer APIs from apps that still run on older OSes are really cumbersome to use in SwiftUI.

This technique from @davedelong makes this much nicer and easier […]

Took some time, and it’s not perfect, but I submitted the @approach iOS 26 / Liquid Glass update for review last night 🤞

Picked up the iPhone 17 Pro today. Coming from 6 years of Pro Max, feels like I’ve been handed a child’s phone 😂

iOS 26 has officially launched, so I guess it’s time to start updating @approach 🫣

Attending a Vancouver indie game dev conference today, there have been some great talks, and already chatted with some inspiring people building cool games. Would love to explore game dev a bit more, and looks like I’ve got some free time coming up to brush up and maybe attend a game jam 👀 […]

I have, regrettably, not found much time to work on iOS 26 for my app (as I have been building some missing functionality for the Android version), but I finally spun it up yesterday and there’s a severe main thread hang that locks up the entire main screen 100% of the time 😎 something to do […]

I feel like build times are much longer and Xcode SPM packages much more finicky on my M1 16gb Air. I hope it’s not already time to upgrade 🥲 anybody else feeling this?

My work has nearly completed its migration from Slack to Google Chat and it’s 🥲 not ideal. Pretty incomplete product, unfortunately. Not to mention lots of vendors/services have no integrations with Google Chat, so I think we’re going to lose a ton of visibility into things

Very excited to see what @pointfreeco has come up with for SQLite iCloud syncing. Currently @approach relies on just regular backups of the full SQLite db file, which is fine for data restoration, but not suitable for multi-device syncing.

Godot’s beginner tutorials are actually incredible. I’ve never touched the software before, but would one day like to make a little indie game. Followed the getting started tutorial on making your first 2D game, and I feel so empowered! I am having visions of grandeur already, and I’ve only […]

Android’s Edge to Edge with compose’s bottom sheets has been so annoying to deal with. Can’t figure out how to get the spacing right so things aren’t overlapping / giant empty spaces

Trying to hack together a quick app — was hoping for a 1-2 day project, so I picked SwiftUI + SwiftData.

Haven’t used SwiftData before, but all I want to do is store a few booleans associated with IDs and why is this so hard 😂🥲
