By contrast, for years now the Right has embraced othering and a politics of negativity. If you amplify resentment and get some people hating other people, the details don't really matter.

The most important reason comes down to the political uses of hatred and othering. The Left genuinely wants to govern: to use policies to create a better future for more Americans. In that approach, the details matter -- there's lots to argue about and iron out.
