Thanks to @efsa-plants.bsky.social for inviting us to EFSA's Plant Health Panel in Valencia this week. It is great to continue our collaboration!

We were grateful to hear about EFSAs work, present some of our work and to see the eradication efforts for the Xylella fastidiosa outbreak in Alicante.

I painted Penicillium stained with trypan blue. Penicillium fungi are important post-harvest pathogens, for example citrus green mould is caused by Penicillium digitatum.

I'm aiming to draw 12 plant pests, or their symptoms, this year. Penicillium = 3/12

The painting shows the structure of a penicillium conidiophore, which looks like a simplified blue tree, with rows of circular spores at the end of the branches. The painting includes stipe (trunk), rami (branches), metulae (sub-branches), phialidae and conidia (spores). The conidiophore looks like a simplified blue tree, with rows of circular spores at the end of the branches.
