@scylladb.bsky.social has joined the party!

When we needed a horizontally scalable data store for Bluesky's v2 AppView implementation, I spent a ton of time testing and evaluating every option and ScyllaDB was the clear winner. The people there have been very nice too!

An unordered / non-exhaustive list of things that helped scale Bluesky's infra efficiently:

+ Exiting the cloud (colocation)
+ HAProxy w/many Node backends
+ Go w/clever code
+ ScyllaDB
+ SQLite w/per user databases
+ Redis w/many instances
+ AMD servers w/many cores
+ Purchasing bandwidth directly

I’m fortunate to have a call with the Bluesky backend team for an hour a week, and I’m continually blown away at how good they are at engineering their systems, how thoughtful they are about protocol design, and how smoothly they’ve been handling a huge influx of new users. Seriously impressive

No, ScyllaDB (there are also some smaller Postgres and SQLite DBs, but the biggest DB that powers the app view indexes is Scylla)
