Spotted this in Rome. Looks like every city is adopting hostile urban design that excludes people.

Tens of thousands of people in Kabwe, including thousands of children, are suffering as a result of contamination left behind by lead mining, most of which occurred during British colonial rule. The mining company responsible and the UK must ensure justice and restitution for the people of Kabwe.
Yesterday, Lord Oates raised the lead pollution from colonial-era mining in Kabwe, Zambia, in the UK House of Lords with peers calling it a "horror" and a "shame"

Oates shared mothers' stories and said the UK as legal authority at the time has a moral responsiblity as well as miner Anglo American

This year was a depressing one for politics, but it produced books that were ambitious and serious attempts to understand the present.

From novels about millennial ennui to sweeping histories of the West, 2025 had a lot to offer to readers.

This is the progress of the USD 100 billion climate finance goal—a commitment by developed nations to support climate action in developing countries. It took them nine long years to finally meet the target.

This is what a broken promise looks like.

In the latest Disaster Management amendment bill 2024, the govt has eliminated provisions, such as relief in loan repayment.

Amazon must pay more tax.

Why?

Amazon would not be able to operate in the UK without an educated, healthy workforce. Or without roads and infrastructure. Or without a police and fire service.

We all pay for these public services. Why shouldn’t they?
