I feel differently. Serving on PTAs and working on budget for work, I have had many people tell me that budgets and financing are overwhelming to them and they don’t engage. I think SPS is just trying to simplify the concepts so that more folks can understand and engage.

Yeah, I feel like it should be well known that the city north of 85th doesn’t have sidewalks and it should be prioritized to have them!

3/ I think it’s fair to assume like other city levies (transportation, library, etc) that DEEL/Mayor currently has more control over levy decisions for what’s in the plan. Council had to approve the levy for the ballot earlier this year and stated many high-level priorities for the levy.

2/ DEEL is an executive department, reporting to the Mayor’s office. Though the Council needs to just approve the plan, sometimes the executive and/or departments consult with Council before they finalize things and officially send them over.

1/ DEEL website has some info: “City Council is required to vote on a FEPP Levy Implementation and Evaluation (I&E) Plan that outlines the spending priorities, grant schedule, and expected outcomes for the six-year Levy. The Mayor’s Office will submit the FEPP I&E Plan to Council in Spring 2026.”

Also, the data trend is FLAT for all groups. Unless we change behavior, why would we see change? Right now, some schools have extra reading specialists at their school because the PTA funds it. This data show that ALL kids at ALL schools need more reading intervention.

Key quote and data: “In summary, 57.7% of all Grade 2 students met or exceeded standards on the MAP, with only 33.4% of Students of Color Furthest from Educational Justice (SoCFFEJ), 22.8% of African American Males (AAM), and 21.4% of Free/Reduced Lunch Students (FRL) met or exceeded standards”

Yes, I heard SDOT is telling my neighbors they’re thinking twice about installing speed bumps on our arterial because other communities who have them say they’re noisy!!! WTF!!!

4/ I wonder how much of the middle school drop is a communication issue. I wonder how long the 10% drop from 5th to 6th has been a trend.
