Not having much luck with the moose but we’re rich in Spruce Grouse this weekend. I made grouse au vin for dinner last night, it takes a long time (and a LOT of wine) to get tender but the results were worth it.

There appears to be corn growing at the Quigley landfill, and to think I’ve been stressing about food security in rural Yukon.

I think 2004 is the last time the smoke was this bad in Dawson. I’m pretty sure the slide was totally obscured at times that summer, it’s still visible this morning but just barely.

Fire season escalated rather quickly in our neighbourhood. A little scary when both roads out of town were closed but one is back open and the other is piloting people through occasionally so we’re not as trapped as we were yesterday! Hoping for a good rain and a some reprieve from the smoke.

Some food I've made recently at Bonton. I make six new dishes per week but rarely have/take the time to photograph them. I love lunch.

I planted the greenhouse this past weekend, which means a couple weeks of getting up at 2am to load the wood stove in there to keep the frost out. My annual private goodbye (and good riddance) to the last scrap of darkness.

First bbq of the season, one of last year’s chickens (4lbs) basted in Valentina sauce. Just about to order this year’s chicks.

Excellent meat on this little guy, very lean and tender, not gamey at all. We made smoked andouille sausages this year (with added pork fat) for something new, they’re so good. Having access to a butcher shop is very helpful during hunting season.

Some pictures from our moose hunt this year. Just a little guy, small enough for my husband and I to handle on our own thankfully! Although it still wasn’t easy hauling quarters down the cut bank you can see in the second pic.

Mornings are getting chilly but still lots of green in the hills! Blueberries are getting close to done and cranberry season is in the air.

🍽️ Fried potatoes, tomato and herb salad (all from the garden), and poached eggs. Lovely holiday brunch at home!

🌱 I cut down all my sunflower blossoms last week for a celebration of life and one week later they’re back in abundance.

I love the generosity of flowers 🌻
