Heidi treats some of the most vulnerable children—kids whose lives depend on Medicaid and ACA tax credits to access life-saving care.

Instead of helping patients like hers, Republicans chose to shut down the government and threaten babies' lives.

The cruelty is the point.

My statement on the two-year anniversary of the horrific October 7th attack carried out by Hamas in Israel:
“The October 7th attack carried out by Hamas was horrific and devastating.

“Elders, babies, parents, and loved ones were senselessly murdered.

“251 souls were taken hostage, among them Americans, Israelis, grandparents, toddlers, and peace activists.

“The grief of these losses runs deep in the Massachusetts 7th and around the world. (1/4) “In the two years since the October 7 attack, I have sat beside the family members of hostages and those who lost loved ones that day.

“Their stories have stayed with me daily. Surviving family members have spoken of our shared humanity.

“The hostage families have sparked a movement calling for peace, joined by a multi-generational, multi-racial coalition of people of every faith and every corner of the globe. (2/4) “Today in Gaza, we are witnessing an unspeakable genocide, and we must continue to call for peace.

“Innocent civilians are being denied food, water and medical care.

“Our children will ask what we did in this moment, and the only acceptable answer remains: everything we could to save lives. (3/4) “I remain committed to the safety and survival of everyone impacted by these atrocities.

“I send my deepest condolences to every family who lost a loved one in the violent October 7th attack and to every family who has lost a loved one in the violence perpetrated in Gaza.

“Grief lasts as long as love does. Your loved ones mattered deeply, and they will not be forgotten.” (4/4)

Now Trump is threatening to send troops to further militarize and traumatize this community.

This is not about safety. It’s about cruelty, fear, and power. And there must be accountability.

This incredible woman, @adelitaforcongress.bsky.social, is the duly elected Congresswoman from AZ and the final vote needed to force the release of the Epstein files. Speaker Johnson refused to swear her in before the government shut down.

They will do literally anything to deny survivors justice.

Tony has stage-four thymic carcinoma.

With the expanded ACA tax credits, he's been able to get life-saving care.

Without them, his healthcare costs would jump & he'd have to drop his coverage altogether.

While Democrats fight for families like his, Republicans chose to shut down the government.

Trump and Republicans shut down the government and are threatening the lives & livelihoods of folks across the MA-7th.

I held an emergency meeting to center the people most impacted and demand Republicans re-open the government & address the healthcare crisis they created.
ayannapressley.bsky.social
Imagine controlling the White House, the Senate, and the House and crying “blame Democrats” when the government shuts down.

Republicans need to get serious about working for the people.

Trump and Republicans have shamefully shut down the government.

While I work to re-open the government and protect our communities, my office will remain available to assist #MA7 constituents.

Here's how we got here and what you need to know:
Republicans wanted a shutdown

Each year, Congress has a responsibility to pass a budget to fund government operations for the fiscal year.

Democrats have been persistent to maintain and restore funding for the programs our communities need and demanding Republicans address the healthcare crisis they have created.

But since Day 1, Trump and Republicans have been working to gut our government and rip away essential services and federal jobs. What is the impact?

Without action by Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress, many of the Affordable Care Act tax credits that help families get health insurance will expire and tens of thousands of people in the MA-07 will see healthcare costs surge. In our district:

29,000 people would see their healthcare costs rise if Republicans let these critical tax credits expire; and

35,512 people would lose health coverage because of Republican cuts to MassHealth in the Big, Ugly Law and their plot to gut the Affordable Care Act. What is the impact?

The consequences are dire for folks in the Massachusetts 7th and beyond:

Evictions could rise;
Seniors could go without assistance from federal agencies;
Federal workers and contractors could miss paychecks;
Women, children, and infants could lose essential nutrition assistance;
Relief from natural disasters would be delayed;
And so much more. What I’m advocating for

Republicans control the House, Senate and White House right now and need to put forward a budget that addresses the healthcare crisis that their harmful policies have created.

Our communities deserve better. Republicans should stop playing games with people’s lives and work with Democrats to keep the government open and address the harm they caused.

By shutting down the government, Trump and Republicans are threatening the lives and livelihoods of millions of families.

I'll keep fighting to reopen the government, mitigate the Republican-caused healthcare crisis, and protect our communities.

My full statement:
Pressley Slams Republicans for Shutting Down Government, Creating Healthcare Crisis (1/2):

“This Republican-manufactured shutdown is threatening the lives and livelihoods of millions of families by ripping away essential healthcare, gutting federal jobs, and cutting the critical services that are a lifeline for our communities.

“Donald Trump and his Republican co-conspirators continue to demonstrate contempt for the people and advance harmful policies that make people hungrier, poorer, sicker, and less safe. Pressley Slams Republicans for Shutting Down Government, Creating Healthcare Crisis (2/2)

“As duly elected Members of Congress, it is not only our duty, but our obligation, to make life better for the people we serve.

“Instead, Republicans have shamefully pushed the country into a dangerous government shutdown, and our constituents deserve better.

“I refuse to accept this future as an inevitability, and I will continue to fight to reopen the government, keep essential services running, mitigate the Republican-caused healthcare crisis, and center the dignity, humanity, and safety of folks in the Massachusetts 7th and across the country.”

We won't go quietly into the night while Republicans shut down our government and make people hungrier, sicker, and more vulnerable.

To the families who stand to be impacted:

We see you. We're fighting for you. And we will not give up.

Trump's cult of followers are attacking & making vulnerable another woman of color simply for doing her job.

It is dangerous & despicable. The normalization of these threats cannot stand.

We must speak out against them every single time & demand accountability every single time. @jayapal.house.gov

Republicans have gutted our government, ripped away Medicaid from millions, & created a healthcare crisis.

Now they want to shut down the government instead of working with Democrats to address the harm they caused.

The people deserve better.
