The lack of development of a worthy modern muslim philosophy has brought Islam to be reduced to majorly extremism, apolitical ritualism and a strain where modern ideological principles are slapped on Islamic principles disconnectedly for their own selfish interests.

A part of me feels uneasy seeing the shallowness of the 'establishment' being exposed naked rather crudely –– while at the same time giving more worth to those with 'anti-establishment' ideas who also seems to have some other hugely dangerous ideas.......

Democracy rested far too much on elites filtering information that the masses consumed. Internet disintermediated the elites. Masses are generating and feeding bullshit to each other. To understand this left-liberals need to let go of their priors that the masses are inherently right and good.

In my humble opinion, this explains the modern realities of south asian muslims. Indian muslims merely enjoyed the medieval muslim enlightenment brought by the Persian-Levantine muslims without attempting at continuing the tradition brought up on them.
