do i think framing this differently over the past decade would have convinced fascist ghouls to leave trans folks alone? probably not. but i do think that this assimilationist identity framework has made it SO much easier for moderates to justify doing nothing while trans ppl get burned at the stake

this is probably one of the greatest failings of 2010s era identity politics: instead of framing trans experiences in terms of their lived realities, it gave reactionaries wide rhetorical latitude by “identifying as” things that we literally, materially are.

can you imagine living a whole life, neglecting yourself, suppressing every want and need and isolating yourself from your family, just because you have no escape from it, as the notion is that "it's crazy to leave your relatives"
