what better place to test than prod
nah I'm actually semi-serious. I'm that slow because I do edge cases and path explorations in my head to have somewhat good code.

I still need to use the remaining 4 APIs for PP to be considered somewhat of a MVP

It would be basically for the whole day, although I'll need to re-setup obs on bazzite with the settings streamplace needs

no updates in the software, but I can say I can finally start working on it again basically as soon as 2026 starts :D

Updates will now be on tangled.org/azom.dev/Pri... btw :)

I'm gonna do it because I'm in a similar place too. Now that most of the things I had are basically done, I'll be able to focus on it (I haven't coded anything in the past 2 months ;w;)

didn't like that my domain for my prog blog was on my irl account :p

Do note that since this is a simple location sharing app, PP will probably not support multiple device accounts

I may be biased by my minimalism, but I think adding logic to sync names if someone changes theirs is over-complicating things for a location sharing app. Having it either sync once when two people add each other or having each user set the name of their friends is the simpler approach

Yeah I also really want something like option 2 for privacy, I guess I'll see if that becomes a problem or not.

Signal's way is cool, but PP isn't trying to be a chat or social media app.

Pretty sure it's public, tied with email (I might be wrong tho). It's also centralized 😔

PP is kind of weird because it tries to do it's own thing in weird ways (for good reasons!)

I personally really like the option 2 (my version or yours), but I was wondering if it was worth it to have names on server for the admin to be able to do admin stuff (I just have deleting accounts in my head) more easily

also, you need logic in the small case where you add a friend that set a name that one of your friend is already using (ask the user to enter a new name I guess?)

Now that you mention it, since adding a friend means exchanging data locally (with QR code, I'm not doing key exchanges yet at least) it's equivalent to E2EE.

This however has the same problem as option 2, where the server admin only sees the ids (which might be a plus)
