Winter feeding time. We’re just making sure the colonies have enough food. They’re starting to raise brood for the spring at this point. The dark blob underneath is the top of the bee cluster. Note the most important tool for winter beekeeping, the coffee thermos.

Another cold day in Mendon, but the bees are inside staying warm. So far they’re doing well.

All of our colonies, including this small yard, are all wrapped, well fed, and ready for winter. The bees will still be active on warm days, but when it’s cold they will stay inside in a cluster, just eating honey.
