One of my favourite comic-y things is finding new illustrators to obsess over when they do guest covers. Don't get me wrong, the art style for Rites of Spring is perfect, but Elizabeth Beals [email protected] - cover variants are so absolutely right for the vibe of the comics.

Haircut today at @openout.bsky.social so I can feel a little less scruffy and a little more me shaped, hooray!

Finally got XX by Rian Hughes off the "shelf of books that I will get around to reading" and, wow.

As someone who has worked a fair bit in early years, here's the thing about free hours for nurseries - it's an okay idea, but it's basically funnelling more of the public's money into private businesses and hoping it'll work out.

Registering on a volunteering site, there's a drop down for gender. Great! Scroll, select non-binary, and registration fails because I've got to "choose a valid gender". Scroll down the drop-down menu again, find "male", and select that. Registration works.

What kind of fuckery is this?

Have a friend visiting for our usual Sunday of "cafe trip" and "play a card game for children that is surprisingly difficult at times".

It might just be that we're bad at games in general - all evidence points to this really - but we have a pretty poor win rate for Adventures In Equestria.

Had a full on day of Blood on the Clocktower, with a whole load of custom scripts I'd not seen before. Wizard is an absolutely bloody wild minion - wishes as a mechanic lets folks show off some serious player, and storyteller, flair.

Got a three day weekend, got a board game with a campaign played over three games, seems like the perfect fit.

Finally tried Lovecraftesque and have thoughts. The good part was that the rules of the game created the general sense of creeping wrongness that the stories evoke well. The less-great part is how it feels like all the co-operative-ness (?) is thrown out at the end.

Played a lot of Blood on the Clocktower today and, perhaps unsurprisingly, didn't do well - I think I was on the winning team more often than not, but my contribution was minimal to say the least.

Oh how convenient, meeting up with friends at - oh, just pulling an idea out of my head here, don't read into it - a comic shop tomorrow afternoon. This list in my hand? A list of comics I've been meaning to buy? Huh. What are the odds. Talk about a coincidence. Sometimes things just work out.

Didn't stay out for long at LFM as my brain just started going "nope-nope-nopity-nope", so went home and had an impromptu nap. Kudos to the folks in full suits today because I could barely handle a partial suit!

Our little corner of London is celebrating the armed forces with a match through town and it makes me feel kinda icky? Especially as the march is on the same day as our local Pride event?

Either way seeing a bunch of white guys marching down the street in grey-blue shirts is pretty uncomfortable.

Right, going to @londonfurs.bsky.social tomorrow, and realised that my planned outfit is warm enough without adding sheepy accoutrements. New plan is probably just going to be shirts, shorts, bare arms and an apologetic attitude.

"Placing fan-favourite characters in relatable, contemporary Chinese settings," says the caption. I'm assuming this means Bellwether isn't a fan favourite rather than some kind of subversive statement about how relatable prison is.

Who knows! Not me! Please don't find some reason to arrest me!

There's a Black Sheep Coffee place in the nearby shopping centre but, alas, the shopping centre has a "no head covering" rule so I can't do the Thing I Want To Do.

Which is probably for the best actually.

Also one of my Pathfinder group grabbed me the Paizo Free RPG Day offerings, presumably so I can learn how to run PF2E properly.
Instead of just using "random" encounters that just happen to be different dinosaurs. Even though there's a statblock already made for devil dinosaurs. Come on now.

It's okay. Saw a man eating a Greggs sausage roll and realised that there is nothing truly separating man and beast. Toilets were clean.
