Maybe we went 100 years between a player who was truly elite/fantastic at both but given more leeway I think maybe every year there has been professional baseball there has been a good to great two way player with the low end of the spectrum being at least passable if that makes sense.

My timeline will be off but can we draw some sort of line from Walter Johnson to Ruth to Rogan to Wes Ferrell to maybe Bob Gibson and then guys like Mike Hampton & Lorenzen or Bumgarner before getting back to Ohtani? Basically, has every generation had one guy who was good at both pitching/hitting?

IMDB still doesn’t have a metascore on their site but the audience gives it a strong 1.1/10 so there’s that.

If he doesn’t hit 73 home runs and instead hits, say, 51 would he get the same hate? With neither home run record I wonder if he’s perceived differently. That outlier number makes it seem like steroids had a bigger influence than PEDs likely did.

Thankfully, these cautious, thoughtful usage patterns have completely eliminated pitcher injuries.

Shout out to the Wooden Shoe. Used to stay right down the road and stagger home. Love that place.

Hall of Fame talent & Hall of Famer. Where do we draw the line because of injuries. Nomar is similar to Tulo in that way. Both HOF talents who couldn’t stay on the field long enough to make it to Cooperstown. Mattingly is similar. Puckett was struck with a career ender & is in. Idk if that’s fair.
