just set the profile name to be longer than the max, which causes the client to throw an error any time it encounters the name (e.g. in search results or replies)

it does but allegedly you can just set validate=false on putRecord and it'll ignore the validation. the appview does not care about profile records either so no validation there.

you can just set it via the api. this is why you can't view the replies on his recent posts and why he was complaining about errors earlier :)
