That doesn't mean we shouldn't try! As the paper notes, these are primarily questions of political will, and solving these problems now will support decades of growth for our city, so my questions are not intended to new critical of your work and vision!

There's no question we can solve the engineering problems. But red and blue line tunnels were built under very different economic circumstances. Has any dense metropolis successfully completed a comparable tunnel in the modern era? IIRC, projects have stalled in both Rome and London (I think?).

The white paper helped me finally understand the crosstowner maps, thanks!

I've read a bit about recent tunneling debacles (e.g. Bertha in Seattle) that make me wary. Given Chi's built environment and geology, how much confidence can we have that new tunnels are feasible?

I was vaguely aware that prices were bad, but I just checked Microcenter, and the RAM I purchased in Feb. 2025 for $83 is now $390!

This is so true. I drive slowly, stop fully at stop signs, etc. But sometimes I still find myself tempted to make aggressive moves because when your vehicle CAN theoretically go faster, you perceive everything else on the road as impeding your progress.

I really need to work through my abolitionist reading list, but I do not believe the abolitionist solution to other forms of violence is to foreclose the possibility that the wrongdoer might have to make changes in their life!

I am sensitive to the fact that fines and license revocations may ultimately be enforced through state violence (like all laws), but to label an automated traffic ticket "carceral" in this context seems to stretch the definition beyond the point of usefulness, IMO.

Every "anti-car" activist agrees that infrastructure change is the long-term solution. And IME most agree that automated cameras have downsides we should take seriously. But cameras are certainly a better solution than either enforcement by cops or non-enforcement, which is what we get instead.

What do you make of the report there was a warrant authorizing at least some type of seizure? (I assume the admin. is violating whatever formal legal authority may exist, but is there a colorable claim to a lawful process, here, or is this just "assembling a rationale" like the boat strikes?

Ellis cites the Declaration of Russell Holt (Doc. 173-1 ¶ 57), which notes Feds did not "need" to deploy chemical munitions after 10/3/25.

Sadly, I think people like feeling insulated from the outside world too much, but I am doing my part by openly glaring at every dark-tinted SUV I see until I can confirm it's not driven by a fed!
