Ready Player One - Steven Spielberg (2/5) Really didn't like the book and its the same for the movie. Feels like nostalgia masturbation for a generation that still clings on to the idea that comic books are in any meaningful way counter culture. Its all funneled into a default adventure cadaver.

Last Stop in Yuuma County - Francis Galluppi (2/5) a pretty middling character piece. Almost every character was kinda boring, and it wasn't clever or funny enough to be stand up to Coen bros movies of the similar style. Also some bad Tarantino vibes. Ending sequence kinda sucked. Felt really long

A Touch of Sin - Jia Zhangke (4/5) Love the way this movie looks and feels. Very brutal 4 stories that only slightly link, but convey a wealth of thoughts on Chinese state capitalist culture and the humans within. It oozes violent resistance, at least as much as you can put in a funded movie

Inland Empire - David Lynch (4/5)
A movie found in the editing process for sure. It feel like Lynch had ideas bigger than scenes in his head and ran around with his little handheld camera in Hollywood until he had enough to chop into something pretending to be a story. Very cool and magical.

Audition (1999) 4/5
Technically a really impressive movie here. The mystery had me invested pretty early on and the payoffs were really crazy. The back half is pretty damn abstract, but man is it cool to watch. Also, insanely cool use of POV shots. Be aware it's a tough watch. audition scene 👍
