Added an axolotl to his model organism collection.

Pupper is pleased. The axolotl both has crinkle and squeaking features. He wishes to find out if he gets a limb off, will it regenerate.

New paper out from @zernickagoetz.bsky.social lab led by Dong-Yuan Chen.

We show how the extracellular matrix guides body axis formation in mouse—and possibly human—embryos. Dong did some very challenging experiments - glad to have played a part in seeing it complete.

Got our pup a xenopus-esque dog toy a while ago and he remains obsessed with it.

It brings me much joy lol

Re: NIH freeze on renewing intramural contracts for those like staff scientists

Wondering if this/larger RIF (which deeply hurts administrative and intramural science) paves way for massive restructuring.

E&C proposed several things in June 2024 report

We found conservation of the crucial role of NODAL, but surprising divergence for BMP. We also suggest an import role for NOTCH. We hope this work is informative for the human peri-implantation signaling environment and can inform both stem cell and embryo-focused future studies.

My grandfather passed away last April - but today I completed a set of books I told him for a long time I would have
My undergrad thesis, my dad's masters thesis, and all three of our PhD dissertations on my bookshelf. Bit surreal
