A little treat to myself for my 35th birthday. An illustrated 1920 pamplet on 'Bopomofo,' the Chinese transliteration system instituted by RoC and still in use in Taiwan. search.worldcat.org/title/26031012
Front cover of the pamphlet, with Chinese and English titles (Phonetic picture dictionary = 看圖識字) and related information, "The National phonetic symbols and word-forms interpreted by mimetic and illustrative cuts arranged according to rhyme endings," "Phonetic Committee Number 22." Page 1 of the pamphlet. Includes various words with "p" sound and illustrations. Preface to the text, in Chinese and English.

It's Banned Books Week! Go read a book they don't want you to read!
Reflecting the dialectical vagaries of censorship, Ding Richang's 丁日昌(d. 1882) 1868 "Banned Books List" has become the primary way to navigate Ming-Qing novels on Wikipedia. Yes, Dream of the Red Chamber (and all its spin-offs) is on the list.

"Coined by the essayist Hu Wenhui in a 2023 WeChat post, “the garbage time of history” refers to the period when a nation or system is no longer viable—when it has ceased to progress, but has not yet collapsed."

My observation has been that wuren is primarily liked by senior Chinese uncles and aunties. Young gens probably are much less enthusiastic than this demographic group about buying overpriced mooncakes in fancy packaging

I don't necessarily think this is a bad idea. MLIS programs are expensive, and can act as a gate-keeping mechanism that discourages candidates with sufficient experience but without the degree from applying.
