Submitting my application, teary-eyed, still in denial, as I watch little Jean-Baptiste devour his goûter and wonder where it all went wrong

The way all the flying dickhead enemies in Silksong move up and diagonally away every time you get close for a swipe should be entered into the annals of video-game based torture. Every one of them can get in the sea quite frankly

It's one of the reasons I really liked the recent Dune films. Things and people are actually dusty and feel lived-in!

(And by contrast, where things are conspicuously pristine, like the Emperor's palace in film two - that likewise has an impact.)

I'd honestly settle for "tired but in a warm, virtuous way" versus my current insomniac vibe, which is, approximately, "the elephant sitting on my brain regrets to inform me that he has, once again, gained weight"

Not that it seems likely that they'll get to filming the fifth book anyway, but it'd be fascinating to see how much worse the "Harry's father horrifically bullied Snape with his rich friends but it's all good, he's a great guy and Snape sucks" beat from the books will land with that casting choice.

Especially irritating when it does that because you've used the sort of search shorthand which Google's literally trained us all to do for 20+ years. If I search "Good restaurant peckham middle-eastern", it's actually not hugely helpful to be told "This is a misconception, that's not a restaurant"!

I go to CPH 4+ times/year (family) - the main terminal building is brilliant and possibly my favourite in the world, but the British shed (and it really is just UK, most intl flights are elsewhere) is so far away as well. Not to mention the insane corridor of screaming blue faces as you go into it!

This (& Nantes) rules! Last year my flight to Nantes was diverted to Toulouse and we were bundled on a bus for 8hrs overnight: when we finally arrived, we went straight to La Cigale for breakfast and it was Very Excellent (good enough that the whole ordeal immediately became just a fun anecdote!)

It's been excellent - I've spent the last three days being accused of having brought a British summer with me to France by various French in-laws as a series of sacrificial volunteers bravely attempted to barbecue for fifteen in the pouring rain (a salad-only meal having been swiftly shot down)

One day I will remember who it was that told me that, if you have ADHD, you can drink coffee as late as you like and it'll just calm you down, and there shall be a Reckoning.

Broke: The OKR extension would be a poor use of limited public infra funds

Woke: The OKR extension was clearly inferior to the Peckham option TFL rejected, which would have been far better for TFL's core customer base (me)

Isn't it fair to say that most other world cities' public transit systems are *far* more subsidised than TFL? Most other operators - the Paris or New York metros, for example - receive operating subsidies; less than half of Paris's or New York's metro income is from fees, and it's over 75% for TFL!

Setting aside the ludicrously long blurbs you can find online, I think it's partly down to cooking only being a hobby if you're doing it for fun rather than as a chore: I love the backstories until they're getting in the way of the two minutes I've given myself to find a recipe for the weekly shop!

Yes (and certainly for academic literature) - albeit I reckon there's a point in other books, particularly fiction, where I feel justified in criticising books despite not finishing them because, quite frankly, they're unfinishable!

The fact that the closest I ever get to a helpful search result on google these days is "thing I want to know about + reddit" is actually insane. I'm sure Google doesn't actually make its money from people googling things - but you'd hope they'd at least care about searches even just working!

This absolutely rocks, thank you (I am also shamelessly idea-mining the one you did a few years back for a trip to Venice, so thanks for that too!)

I went on a highlights tour of the BM with my mum as a birthday present for her, and stumbled on that tablet directly behind something the tour was discussing - utterly gobsmacking not just to find it but to find it so completely unremarked upon!

A sprightly Fantine carries its own risks, though. I saw Les Mis with my partner's parents (both French, she a great fan of Hugo), and their main takeaway from Act 1 was that Fantine was far too healthy for someone dying of tuberculosis - which, true, perhaps, but a tad unfair on the actress...

Totally get that! Just as a side note - I think you wrote a great piece for the New Statesman (?) about a year ago on insomnia which really changed the way I saw it, particularly on how hard/odd it can feel to relate to "normal" sleepers during rough patches. So thank you very much for writing that!

Oh my god, the utterly depraved feeling of being well-rested after days of insomnia is truly something else. Still amazes me that the insomnia aspect of ADHD doesn't get more visibility - quite possibly the worst thing about having it by far, at least in my book!
