Correct, and incorrect.

Jute fibre needs to be batched with an oil to be able to make into yarn.

In the jute cordage industry (where I’m employed), JBO always refers to white petroleum mineral oil.

Vegetable oils are known as VOT (Vegetable Oil Treated).

I knew the late Koshinuma-san and wife Keiko. The son now runs the shop. Ogawa is conveniently located in Tokyo and stocks Chinese-made heavy twine jute cordage designed for securing fruit tree saplings... and adapted it for Shibari. You find it in many rope stores throughout Japan.
