In Memory of Assata Shakur 🌹

To remember Assata is to continue the fight for liberation ✊🏾

Assata Shakur is remembered as a fighter for the freedom and dignity of Black people, colonized nations, and the global working class. Born in a country built on slavery and exploitation, she chose not to accept the world as it was handed to her. Through her work with the Black Panther Party and the Black Liberation Army, she stood against racism, poverty, police violence, and imperialist war.

Her life reminds us that liberation is not granted from above but must be struggled for from below. Assata faced imprisonment, exile, and relentless demonization—but she never abandoned her commitment to justice.

Assata’s legacy belongs to all those who refuse to accept oppression as permanent. She teaches us that the struggle of Black people in the U.S. is tied to the struggles of workers and colonized peoples everywhere.

Her words—calling us to “love each other and support each other”—remain a guiding light. Assata Shakur is more than a revolutionary of the past; she is a living example of courage, discipline, and international solidarity.

The Greater Baltimore Democratic Socialists of America (GBDSA) has launched a targeted boycott campaign here in Baltimore to join the international fight for Palestinian rights and liberation. Together with local chapters of Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP Baltimore) and Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM DMV), we are working to end Baltimore’s financial complicity in Israel’s apartheid. And you can help.

Sign the pledge to join our targeted boycott campaign. The more pledges we have, the more we can convince businesses to drop complicit products from their shelves, so share this with everyone you know in Baltimore. The international boycott effort has the Israeli govt in a panic. That means it's working!

Apartheid-Free Baltimore is a targeted boycott campaign led by the Baltimore Democratic Socialists of America alongside locals chapters of @jvp.bsky.social & Palestinian Youth Movement.

Israel is becoming a pariah state. The international boycott effort has Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu panicking. Haaretz article headline: "We Are Sparta: Netanyahu Says Israel Is Facing Isolation, Must Shift to Self-reliance"

The prime minister said that Israel [...] will have to break a "social media" siege... Netanyahu said Israel will invest significant resources to repel this siege as well, adding that the effort to boycott Israel is a coordinated one and that there's an organized attack regarding the legitimacy of Israel. The whole world is fighting to save Palestine, but the Israeli government is determined to continue the genocide and annexation and use propaganda to try to silence us.

And it’s not just Netanyahu. BDS has Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar in a panic too. In fact, he’s lobbying our lawmakers to silence us. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar lobbied 250 US state lawmakers on a visit to Israel to pursue anti-Boycott Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) legislation... “The best answer against BDS, until this day - has been anti-BDS legislation by your states,” Saar said.

The Israeli government is fighting back against all of our boycott efforts as hard as it can. That can only mean one thing. It’s working.
