Ran out of perfect fit sleeves 21 cards in, which is probably good because this is making me a little emotional. Hundreds upon hundreds of duels with this deck.

Figure you might share in this nostalgia, @giantskyhawk.bsky.social.

When I was building this deck out, I needed 3 Extrav but only pulled 1. The manager who ran my locals told me if I won that night, he'd sell me the other two I needed for $50s (they were $75-$80 at the time).

I spent $100 at the end of the night.

That format had some definite leaders — hence the name: Thunder Dragon, Orcust, Salamangreat, Sky Striker — but the divide between tier 1 and tier 3 was narrow. A HUGE diversity of decks could compete (and topped!), while sharing similar enough siding strategies as to not be unmanageably wide.

A lot of people bounced off Survival's End really hard, not realizing that (1) Foolish Burial Goods is a good card, and (2) both of Survival's End's effects can be used in the same turn. With ANY normal in play (tokens included), I could start my combo AND clear a problem card in two chains.

A fun fact about this build: I was the only one of I think five players at my local who were playing Dino during TOSS. I was also the only Dino player at my local that topped with them during TOSS. Why? Because I rounded out my matchups with a strat other people weren't playing and didn't know.

I'm probably gonna have to dig for lists a little on Grandsoil Psychics and Danger! Gren Maju!, but i found my list from Jan 2020 Chicago Regional Dinos that got 44th out of 504.

One step closer: unsleeved old decks and roughly sorted those and loose cards.

2022, round one, table 766 – Haisten B., that round was the way I wanted to go out of competitive, and I appreciate it immensely. Three-game grind, nothing but class, shot the shit for a while after. Couldn't ask for a better opponent.

Can't help feeling at least a little sentimental. Modern was a big part of my life for a long time. It just doesn't appeal to me anymore, and that's ok. I'll have just so many cards for if I ever want to do a bulk-only build with friends for any format from 2017 through 2023.

As it turns out, in my thousands of collection and bulk cards, I don't have a single Dragon's Mirror.
