It was loud and fun. For a bit.

I still live here working in a Children's Nutritional Lab. Trying to make the world a better place.

Forgive me for wanting diversity and leadership at a very white and very conservative institution in the wake of White Supremacy and fascism.
baney84.bsky.social
State College is my hometown. It's values are sinking as MAGA fucks continue to radicalize all around me. They want this place to be Ohio State, Alabama, some place where a white coach exploits black men for the pride of the wealthy white boosters.
baney84.bsky.social
Like what? Yelling at James Franklin like everyone else?
baney84.bsky.social
I find Ohio State's fanbase to be disgusting. Completely results based and little to no care about the players as students or people.

It seems like one that PSU is coming closer and closer to emulating that, though.
baney84.bsky.social
Just dudes that got there with the talent or cheating they could do! I think anyone coach could have won with OSU's roster last year and JIM was getting beat by James until they got Connor.
baney84.bsky.social
He left. He didnt like it that much here and was a Pro coach anyway. He hated having to deal with the boosters.
baney84.bsky.social
Alright man. Sorry.
baney84.bsky.social
It's fine, people wanted to frame me a certain kind of way. It's not likable to criticize a popular left sports personality. If even its coming from the left to look at context.
baney84.bsky.social
Ryan Day and John Harbaugh (cheater) too.
baney84.bsky.social
I don't find James to be morally repugnant. He's been steadfast in trying to make sure the kids being developed here make it as full fledged people.

To me he is not looking the other way and only interested football victories.

Generally speaking he's produced great kids with very few issues.
baney84.bsky.social
The Vanderbilt case is fair and if you have always hated James for it, I don't have anything that will change your mind.

I don't think anyone brought up Vanderbilt as a criticism in the thread until you did.

He dismissed all the players who were alleged to have raped the girl.
baney84.bsky.social
An accident. Sorry man
baney84.bsky.social
But I also think that it's not worth firing a coach who has legitimately gotten people to believe in something good, namely, that Penn State could once again be looked at as something good and positive.
baney84.bsky.social
No, and that is the confusion that is happening. Im not suggesting Lucy or Dan or others are racist. What I am saying is that people are not picking up that their casual and lacking context criticism will become amplified.

Do I think this team is underperforming based on expectations? Yes
baney84.bsky.social
I just think Lincoln is in the middle of nowhere and it's not attractive to minorities or most of the best players in the country. You need a revolutionary coach to get talent there.
baney84.bsky.social
Defending what? That white conservatives have issues with Franklin since his hire due to race and amplify legitimate criticism to a screeching pitch to push him out?
baney84.bsky.social
I found Paterno negligent and not equipped. Certainly most of the blame should be on the cops who didnt prosecute in the '90s and the administration, so what are you talking about?
baney84.bsky.social
Who am I apologizing for? I said they were all criminal?
baney84.bsky.social
Wow, lot of people couldn't handle the idea that they were in league with racists looking to push out a Black Coach.
baney84.bsky.social
They can't give their Non-valid reasons, so they need to amplify the valid reason as much as they can.

They are amplifying every mistake as loudly as possible. Eventually, even the non-racists will say "we just had to make a change"
baney84.bsky.social
I'm not one to sell out the whole program to get a white coach to satisfy the maga contingent that is pushing the hardest for a firing
baney84.bsky.social
So the first 7 to 8 years would you realistically expect it? Then once you get to let's say the last 2 years, where Michigan finally starts cheating (James had previously beat Harbaugh multiple times).

Did I expect a win in the last 4 years against Ohio State? Sure.
baney84.bsky.social
This isn't even unique to football. Every department at this university struggles to get and retain minority talent.
baney84.bsky.social
There is a combination of factors that get recruits to a place. Eugene has a Nike budget that might be second to none now.

What im saying is that for most recruits, State College is too tiny and too white, so you need coaches that can speak to diversity and make the experience worthwhile
