Raven – Satanist in Aotearoa (they/them)
@baphokiwi.bsky.social
Thinking out loud as I explore nontheistic Satanism and hoping to find other NZers who hail themselves along the way 🤘
Non-binary (they/them), queer, chronically ill and disabled, tangata te tiriti, sci-fi watcher, gamer, and non-fiction reader.
Just as importantly, I think it also means we take responsibility for our accomplishments and that matters a lot to me because so often people give credit to a deity and not the person who put in the time, money, hard work, and love.

I've seen too many christians (and I did this myself) continue to do awful things because either they are abiding by church doctrine or culture, or because they can simply pray for absolution from their god and all is supposedly forgiven.

I think it also means that we should own our mistakes and the harm we cause others. Taking responsibility is important for living an emotionally healthy life and for self-development. And I think it means we're more likely to apologize and try to heal our relationships with others when we can.

And humans are very capable of knowing right from wrong; we don't need a magical sky daddy to give us rules.

I think it means we should live by our own moral codes, not those touted by a church. And I think that's important because then we have more ownership over our choices and the outcomes of our decisions and actions (which in turn means we're more likely to abide by those moral rules).

Who? I'd really like to read them

Oh I wasn't intending to say that philosophy is only a religious thing. I want really talking about philosophy in general.

I was asking what (if any) the difference is between A philosophy (not the field of study, a system of beliefs and values) and a religion

That's a good quote

Sorry, I'm not really sure what you're trying to get at here but I'll have another read over this in the morning with a fresh brain

Does anyone have the strength to do it all on their own? Like truly? I believe everyone needs a community, everyone needs support
February 6, 2026 at 4:12 PM
I guess I'm wary of self-delusion
February 6, 2026 at 4:10 PM
I don't follow all the alpha delta stuff so I'm not really sure what you mean here sorry

I think it's important to clarify here who are "the strong" and who are "the weak"

Lesser magic is manipulation but greater magic is more than that isn't it?

LaVey loved the pageantry and drama. I agree we don't need the church equivalent. I think LaVey just needed to join a theatre or Larping group lol

Are you saying rituals help us create meaning?
February 6, 2026 at 3:33 PM
I often tie up too much energy in semantics lol 🤦
February 6, 2026 at 2:12 PM
Ah got ya. Initiation is definitely a good point of difference; religions care a lot more about formal membership
February 6, 2026 at 1:56 PM
Yeah, I agree that rituals don't have to be attached to a religion.

Good point with the hierarchy suggestion

I don't think that religion has to have indoctrination. It often does, though.

Great idea!

😔 I feel ya, my jaw has been extra crampy and painful for a little while now. It's so hard to ignore or deal with
