Veterinarian, Christian, she/her. Mother of two still hoping for a kinder world for her kids, despite the dumpster fire all around us. Expect rambling on gardening, fantasy books, video games, and other nerdy things.

I have been doing entirely too much earnest posting about deep things recently, I need to do a proper thread about hippo testicles or something just to keep myself sane.

Oh by the way hippos have migratory testicles.

BREAKING: a rival Pope has been declared and taken residence in Avignon, France. This Avignon Papacy is a direct rival to the Chicago Pope and sets up a conflict between AP and Chicago style Catholics.

Ooh, yay, my brain has decided this is a “nothing is okay, weeping is the only acceptable option” day. So glad I have a busy morning at work and then an afternoon with a sick kiddo. I love this for me.

So are all IBR repayment plans are going away? Suddenly a lot of vets in a group I'm a part of are posting that their payment is going to jump from something reasonable to $4-5k per month. I hope the gov't is ready for a whole lot of professionals to suddenly default. 🙃

Thought my days of cute pseudo-words was over, but then tonight my 4 year old said he did a “sneak-ret.” 😍

My poor 7 year old. So far this year she lost her pediatrician, her teacher, her daycare, and the gymnastics class she’s been in for years. Tonight at her new gymnastics class her coach said this is her last week. 🙃 Poor kid just wanted to listen to Courage by Pink over and over on the way home. 😢

I cannot plan a third trip this year. I cannot plan a trip to CO for Spring Break so I can see several of my best friends and show my children around where I grew up. I've already got two vacations planned this year. 😭 But I WANT to.

Nothing like a night of insomnia and existential dread where you suddenly enter a deep mourning of all the friendships that have faded over the years. Tried to look up a couple of old online friends but their online footprint is just...gone. I'm very sad today.

Ah, it’s that time of year. My brain is anxiously craving sunlight and all the green and growing things. Started a bunch of seeds indoors and ordered a little container fig tree. Someone tell me I don’t also need small peach and olive trees. #miniorchard #gardening

Listening to my daughter (7) read Go Dog Go to my son (4) and she same inflections I do on certain pages. Choosing to hold on to the little joys like this instead of focusing on the awful in the world today.

Even worse incompetence: they accidentally fired, then apparently today un-fired, hundreds of the people who manage America's nuclear weapons.

I am going to be so pissed if--after everything--I do, in fact, die of dysentery.

I am not pleased to report that my brain has moved on from dreams of "you haven't gone to class all semester and now you have to pass this test or you FAIL" to "you have to take this EASY math test only half the test is not math and you have to write an essay and have forgotten all words."

Currently on a "buying my favorite media in physical form because at least I'll have comfort during the apocalypse" kick. Got the She-Ra DVDs and...it doesn't include seasons 4-5? And it doesn't look like they're planning on releasing those seasons in physical media? I'm so pissed.

My 7 year old has been curled up on the couch for hours with a book. She's finally gotten to the point that she can just start a chapter book and READ. My introverted bookworm heart is full. We're going to have rainy afternoons with tea and books and fluffy blankets. 🥰

I'm working my way through the Throne of Glass series and just finished Queen of Shadows. Loved it, got to the end and have decided that it's a nice point to take a break (especially since I'm tandem reading the next ones). Thought about Onyx Storm, but that is probably also full of trauma.

Another snow day today.

Started the day snuggling with my kids as snow fell outside, then filled the day with Legos, waffles, snowball fights, and reading a book filled with romance (and pirates). My heart has appreciated today’s respite from the awful of the world.

Apparently all the "ripping out plants with my bare hands" pulled something in my back yesterday. And it snowed last night so I get to play the "am I going to fall off the hills" game on the way to work today.

Last week:
7: I need a Wizard costume for school next week.
Me: Okay, done.

Tonight, 6pm:
7: Oh no, it’s not a WIZARD day, it’s a Wizard of Oz day tomorrow. 🥺

One floofy pink dress and tiara from her closet later, we’ve got ourselves a Glinda.
Cosplay Crunch skills: Still got ‘em.

Did a bunch of garden clean-up today in the cold rain until my fingers and toes were numb. Unfortunately, all the mess with this country was still here afterward. Felt good to rip things out of the ground with my bare hands, though.
