Maybe, but if so, not equally. The leadership seems to matter. Trump's responses give license to Republicans to attack (whether re the death of Kirk or Reiner) or to show indifference (eg school kids) while the responses of Biden, Harris & Clinton consistently express sorrow and encourage empathy.
