Labor pledged to save $6.4bn through cutting the government's use of consultants and external labour, and yet here they are forking out more. The government's focus must be on rebuilding the public service for core work functions.

A big four consultancy firm has used AI in a report that had several errors, and charged the Australian taxpayer with the bill. I am livid.

Shame on Deloitte. Bigger shame on Govt for using them for core public sector work: $440k contract for rubbish: “Deloitte has admitted to using generative AI for a core analytical task; but it failed to disclose this in the first place.”

The Barefoot Invester weighs in
on Labor’s 5% deposit ‘solution’:

First rule in a housing crisis: don’t make things worse. Albanese’s 5% deposit scheme is a fail.

Labor could have done something significant for first home buyers, but instead has dropped them into an outrageously expensive market with the burden of a 95% mortgage to boot.

Why can't we have the tax reform that will actually help and that the Greens are pushing for?
barbarapocock.bsky.social
House prices up 0.9% - in just one month. 4 years into a Labor Govt. And PM is blaming the Greens! It’s on yr watch PM. You are making it worse - as renters face massive hikes and our most marginal are kicked out of their tents in the centre of our cities. Do things that work.

Until the government scraps the tax perks for wealthy property investors - the capital gains tax discount and negative gearing - and builds affordable homes, younger generations will be left on the sidelines.
barbarapocock.bsky.social
Increasing housing demand without dealing with the acute housing supply issue in this country just means more expensive homes.
barbarapocock.bsky.social
Treasury's own modelling shows there will be an increase in house prices. Labor’s scheme will turbocharge the housing crisis by driving property prices up, locking out first-home buyers or plunging them into deep debt.

The Albanese Government’s First Home Buyers Scheme will add $55 billion to property prices over the next 6 years. We’re in the middle of a housing crisis and Labor’s solution is to add billions to property prices.

Turbocharged house prices. Untold mortgage stress. Rents thro the roof. Homelessness historically high. Labor’s housing targets blown. Today, their 5% deposit scheme pours fuel on the fire. Labor is making the problem worse.

If the head of the NACC can’t manage his own conflicts of interest, how is he supposed to lead Australia’s anti-corruption commission?

I am deeply concerned that people without homes are treated in ways that must make their complex and difficult circumstances even more distressing. I will continue to discuss and pursue the matter. Everybody deserves a safe and secure home.

- Increase rubbish disposal facilities & provide a self-cleaning toilet

- What steps has the State govt taken to provide free public transport between south Parklands & nearby facilities?

- What steps is the State govt taking to deal with root causes of homelessness?

I have written to the state and council governments to ask that they work together to implement and improve three issues to assist people living in the area, and for those who visit the Parklands.

I am deeply concerned about the treatment of people living in tents in the Southern Parklands in Adelaide. People are having their homes rolled up and removed while away, returning to find their important personal possessions gone. This is wrong, and unjust. 🧵

Today is Nuclear Abolition Day, a global call to end the threat of nuclear weapons. They don’t bring safety, only the risk of annihilation and climate collapse. On September 26, people around the world unite to demand action: dialogue instead of division, disarmament instead of destruction.

No Premier, it is not socials vs scientists. It is unequivocal science showing that new coal and gas puts the safety of our kids’ future on the planet at risk. This is not a keyboard war. Our responsibility is to act on the science - not denigrate it. Not run Santos’ lines to protect their profit.

The government has got to look at the bigger picture and get serious about managing house prices and addressing supply. Narrow focus on demand side measures is only going to make the problem worse. It's time to scrap the tax breaks for wealthy property investors.

It's reckless for the govt to encourage 1st home buyers to spend more than they can afford - repayments of over $1000 a week is too much for most. Borrowing 95% of a mortgage when homes are 8 times the average household income is a recipe for financial stress, not stability.

The RBA quoted Treasury's own modelling when criticising the 5% deposit scheme, saying it will only bring forward a greater number of purchases while not increasing the supply of houses. That's straight from the government's own numbers.
barbarapocock.bsky.social
The Reserve Bank of Australia has joined the growing chorus of voices who say the federal government's 5% deposit scheme is short-sighted when it comes to controlling house prices. That's the RBA using Treasury's modelling to tell the government to reconsider its housing fix.
