On occasion of the #EANM25, the BBRC hosted a satellite session on clinical PET in Alzheimer’s.

50 clinicians & researchers discussed how amyloid, FDG and tau PET support diagnosis, prognosis & therapy monitoring.

We participated with a short talk about lifestyle’s key role in preventing dementia, a workshop on neurons and how our brain works and we also had the #Alzheimer’s memory game “Numbers to forget.

This study was conducted within ALFA+ cohort (part of the ALFA Study) at the BBRC, supported by @caixaresearch.bsky.social . 323 cognitively unimpaired participants at increased risk for Alzheimer’s, thanks to all participants and the team. 🙌

In multivariable models, the DHA–PACC link was stronger than classical risk factors (age, sex, education, APOE-ε4). This highlights DHA status as a promising brain-health marker in midlife at risk for AD.

Researchers used PACC, a composite that blends episodic memory + executive/attention, domains that change earliest in the Alzheimer’s continuum. A composite reduces variability and sharpen sensitivity to subtle preclinical shifts.

No significant interactions by sex, APOE-ε4 carriership, or AD pathology (CSF Aβ/tau).

EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) showed no beneficial associations in our models.

Higher ALA (a plant omega-3) related to better visual processing performance (estimate 0.425; 95% CI 0.168–0.682; p=0.001).

This suggests complementary roles:
DHA (bluefish) ↔️ global cognition
ALA (walnuts) ↔️ visual processing

Main finding ➡️ Higher DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) at baseline was linked to a more favorable trajectory in global cognition over time. Effect estimate: 0.011 (95% CI 0.001–0.021; p=0.024).

In short: people with more DHA tended to do better over follow-up.

Researchers measured red blood cell (RBC) omega-3s (DHA, EPA, ALA) by gas chromatography in 323 cognitively unimpaired, middle-aged adults at higher risk for AD; tracked cognitive change over 3 years with a comprehensive battery.

With donanemab, Europe now has its second anti-amyloid therapy authorized (after lecanemab).

Next step ➡️ national authorities will decide on access, reimbursement, and eligibility criteria.
