Appalling error from @theguardian.com: NO country "runs 100% on renewable energy" or even gets close, something very different from 100% renewable electricity which is typically just 20% of total energy used. Pure #hopium, please pull the video! 1/2 www.theguardian.com/world/video/...

For decades, those wanting to avoid serious discussion of the growing climate risks facing their businesses, assets or homes have attempted to not only deny risk, but also to argue that nowhere is safe — and therefore cost-benefit doesn't apply and every place should get rescue plans, bailouts, etc.
"Virtually nowhere is safe from extreme weather disasters" is riskwashing.

A huge difference in anticipated outcomes between the most and least exposed places, even if the least exposed still face serious rising climate risks.

This has massive downstream implications.

Important to get right.
Western NC was long thought to be a “climate haven,” but Hurricane Helene and subsequent flooding showed virtually nowhere is safe from extreme weather disasters. In fact, 72% of the state’s counties may face “climate abandonment,” migration driven by a combination of factors.

Reminder: we are being trained not to care about other people. It underlines the attacks on migrants, on DEI, on trans youth, on so-called "wokeness."

Sure there are legitimate critiques but this is not about critiques. It's about supercharging capitalism's culture of uncare.

There is a really interesting essay to be written by a media studies person on why editorial cartoonists are responding to the current political moment with more clarity and better analysis than almost all the editors and political reporters at the same outlets that publish them.

What's happening right now at USAID is probably the most shameful thing I've heard of so far in this new administration.

Withdrawing aid from the poorest people in the world with no notice is intentional harm. A crime against humanity.

A curious coincidence: on the cover of Catalan digital elnacional.cat today, for the first time since last summer, is a photo that I know all too well of disobedient Spanish judge Joaquín Aguirre.

Pure enshittification. Jam in a commodity summarising feature because you think you should use it ,while actively degrading the real utility of your product for your most engaged readers.
LOL the Washington Post replaced its archive search tool with an AI that tries to summarize the archive ahead of delivering any actual stories, and which only ranks its findings by "relevance," with no option to rank them by date
