Northern Colorado historian. Interested in how the built environment affects our lives. Nuanced discussions are better discussions. My dog is neurotic and my chicken is gimpy.
This quote is from a great Strong Towns article by Jarah Jacquay on how places form people.

The application of the Golden Rule should be clear in this case. If Christians want the freedom to participate in the American marketplace without facing reprisals for their faith or their beliefs about God’s design for the family, shouldn’t they extend that same courtesy to those who disagree?

Hattie McDaniel lived in Fort Collins for a short time when she was a young child. She later went on to win an Academy Award for her role in Gone With the Wind. The house where she lived was part of an early African-American neighborhood in north Fort Collins (near today's Martinez Park).

...in addition to training assistance, road construction, and other belt & road related work China is pouring into Uganda. It is substantial. If a time comes when Uganda (& all other African nations receiving Chinese donations) have to choose between China and America, which way will they swing?

"A resurrection church that follows a resurrected savior should be a balm, not a blowtorch. It will never be perfect, of course, but its fundamental orientation isn’t toward protecting itself, but toward serving others. Its default posture toward difference isn’t suspicion, but affection."
There is a different version of the Christian faith, one that is far removed from the political headlines.

This faith loves its enemies. It mends the broken heart. And it declares, by word and deed, that no one is too lost to experience the love of God. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/20/o...

The Trump administration is confessing to its own constitutional violations. On Morning Joe earlier today I tried to explain that the admin's actions are truly extraordinary. I never saw anything quite like this in more than 20 years of litigation: www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJpP...

This is a good update. I'm glad to see things are moving in a positive direction. Silence in the skies. Silence at sea. And sons and daughters brought home. Fingers crossed.

The better rooted we are, the easier it is to weather the storms. I find myself rooted in 3 ways -- rooted to people, to place, and to routine. I love my morning routine. First I let the chicken out. Stepping outside immediately orients me to the weather, the sounds of the city, & smells in the air.
