osprey WIP

(i'm about halfway through texturing, realized i hadn't posted the full model yet though!)

you can drag 128x128 PNGs straight into picoCAD, so i was working in Aseprite and then mapping them in picoCAD

and finally, i take a screen recording of the model in the webviewer and put it through After Effects to add (probably unnecessary) VFX (+ sync it to the tune i made). here's a screenshot of the settings i use. i'd like to try out a CRT filter plugin, if anyone has a favorite just yell it at me.

here's a comparison of the old WIP texture vs. the final texture:
December 9, 2025 at 6:23 PM
\\ step 5 - assembly \\

some changes made, minor and major. i decided to use a different palette, and re-textured what i had done up to that point. the environment stayed mostly the same, added planes all over for falling snow.

and here's what the texture looks like currently.
December 6, 2025 at 9:53 PM
\\ step 4.1 - more texturing \\

i'll probably add more detail to the mech, but i'm going to move on to the buildings and environment first

and lastly here's a screenshot of the texture itself. the details will change but what's most important now is that i don't overshoot how much space i'm using in my 128x128 file.

this step is mostly Aseprite + picoCAD, w/ some double-checking done in the webviewer (i try to keep that to a minimum because i realize this workflow is already a bit ludicrous).

here's how the same texture file looks in the webviewer:
December 4, 2025 at 8:03 PM
\\ step 4 - texturing \\

even though i now have 3 separate models combined, they have to share the same texture file. additionally, i'm using an unsupported palette, so the image out of picoCAD isn't wholly representative of the actual texture.

so the process up until this point has been:
picoCAD to model > picoCAD Toolkit to combine models > picoCAD webviewer to view combined models

DISCLAIMER: picoCAD is a lot of fun to work in "vanilla", none of what i'm doing outside the original software is necessary.
December 3, 2025 at 6:06 PM
however, the picoCAD webviewer still allows me to view the combined models.

from this point forward i'll use the webviewer to double-check changes to the individual parts that might impact the final version.

\\ step 3 - background modeling \\

at this point, combining the background model w/ the previous mech model breaks picoCAD, so work becomes a bit siloed between each part (legs, body, background).
