News of 2 ex-Reds on this day in 2008 - Mark Stallard & Adie Moses were appointed caretaker managers at Mansfield Town (in the Conference at the time) after Billy McEwan was sacked. They won two league games before David Holdsworth was appointed in January 2009. #BarnsleyFC #MansfieldTown

Otd in 1978, Allan Clarke’s promotion chasing Reds played at Rochdale in Div 4 & 3 goals in 8 mins just before h-t from Derek Bell (his 5th in 5 games since signing), Alistair Millar & Clarke himself earned a 3-0 win. This was also Tommy Graham's debut after signing from Aston Villa. #BarnsleyFC

A fixture list coincidence in 1973 when for the 2nd year running Barnsley played Hartlepool on Dec 8th - both in Div 4. And both ended in 2-1 wins for the Reds. Kenny Brown & Mick Butler scored in this win at the Victoria Ground. Les Lea and Brian Mahoney had scored at Oakwell in 1972. #BarnsleyFC

On this day in 1946, #BarnsleyFC played Bradford Park Avenue at Oakwell in Div 2, goals from Walter Bennett, Gavin Smith & Gordon Pallister (pen) earned a 3-1 win. Centre-back Stan Charlesworth, signed from Grimsby Town, made his debut. He played 7 games that season before moving to Gainsborough.

A strange tale of ex-Red, Ted Robledo's death on this day in 1970. Ted, brother of George of course, went missing from a ship, the Al Sahn, which sailed from Dubai the previous day. Having played together over many years, the brothers went their separate ways in 1957.. 1/3 #BarnsleyFC #TedRobledo

Last week I mentioned Paddy Greenwood signing for the Reds in 1971 & this was the day he made his debut in a 3-0 defeat at Notts County which took County to the to the top of Div 3. Barnsley stayed 2nd bottom. This game was the 2nd of a run of 6 matches without scoring. #BarnsleyFC #NottsCounty
