Hier soir j’ai assisté au party de la fin d’année et les profs d’espagnol ont nous présenté leur ami d’Espagne qui fait des recherches chez nous sur la cuisine d’Okinawa et sa relation avec le tourisme.

Tuesday night I was invited to a Stammtisch, a conversation table in German. Got all that I bargained for with 4 profs, a native from Düsseldorf and students going on Austausch programmes. Good times! Rekindled my love for German.

Every Sat. I take an online course with 中山大學（高雄）My classmates are either living in China, Taiwan or have lived there, so I'm the lowest in spoken proficiency. My teacher suggested dictation practice with the text. Hard but useful practice. I heard 口音, not English Call In (last line, pic 2)

#langsky Good weekend of study. Español con Carmen, read a story by Balzac, finished Italian homework, Chinese class online, Korean dictation practice, watched BILD breakdown of situation in Syra. Almost 12 hrs in total.

Korean: A longterm project. I study 30m every day with Korean Grammar in Use (Japanese version) and a 4-skills textbook (w/answer key). I also attend Korean Lunch Time. It's grammar focused and beyond my level but I keep going. Eventually, I'll put it together. Attend conference in Seoul next yr.

Japanese: I don't really study Japanese. I've lived here more than 30 years. I read the newspaper and watch TV. I'm surrounded by Japanese, so I just live it.

German: also in a maintain mode. I mainly watch ZDF Heute and BILD magazine reports on German politics and the situation in Ukraine. Next week my uni is going to have a Stammtisch event, so I'll go to that.

Spanish: in a holding pattern to just maintain regular contact. I'm SLOWLY reading Una Historia de España but mostly I watch YT videos occasionally and listen to RNE podcasts, esp. Documentos (highly recommend).

In other news, just began an Italian course in TeacherStefano and was shocked to learn "my water broke" (acque rotte). That was not on my bingo card. : )

I’m now doing 4 (CHN, KOR, ITA, LTN) but feel more effective to study 2-3.

Began Latin in April w/ TY Beginner's Latin (it sat on my shelf for YEARS); I must say learning Latin is a revelation. I can better appreciate the deep roots of English and other European languages. I learned that the name Amanda, for ex. is the gerundive form for 'she who must be loved.'
