I’m not sure what to think about the contested shots issue other than to say that I think these players may have been better when TK and Kam were on the floor, and that they may not perform as well this year as last. But that they are all better, likely far better, than the numbers say so far.

Putting the focus on contested shots and poor finishing at the rim on offense helps sort this all out, but not sure the second is really a talent issue. More of an aggression, killer instinct thing to me. The defensive issues also fit into this category to me as MU has good size and quickness.

Seems to just be another way of saying these guys stink, which doesn’t answer many questions. Rather than a talent deficit, couldn’t we be looking at historical underperformance vs expectation combined with leadership gap after TK and Kam’s departures & talent vs scheme issues?

Maybe this is all naive, and maybe due to being a Cubs and Bears fan, I’m too tolerant of losing. But count me as a supporter of Shaka and these players now and next year and the year after.

And while one basketball obsessed billionaire alum is all it takes to buy a team that can take you to the Final 4 (see St John’s & Mike repole), I respect Shaka and MU’s commitment to quality kids and building a team and a culture. I think there are lots of parents out there that do as well.

This also makes sense to me from a practical standpoint as there is no way that #mubb will be able to compete for free agents against the biggest programs. Our donor base may be wealthy and generous, but it’s significantly smaller in number than most of the big schools.

For MUBB, we know who we’re supporting: it’s Shaka, & the players he’s recruited & we’ve seen mature as players. I think that’s a genuine source of pride for MU & for me, as a fan, I appreciate the effort to identify quality individuals AND players, help them develop, & forge an identity as a team.

In the new NCAA, for almost every team, you’re supporting a collection of players who have little or no connection to your school. They may not be taking classes, or be there for a year, or even less. The only continuity is the coaching staff and we’re going to see lots more coaching turnover too.

And I’ll say again, I love Zaire’s decisions making and think he needs a bigger role on offense generally and maybe in key possessions

Might be right. Either way he or Ross need more space on those ISO plays whether end of game or not. It doesn’t seem the the PnR is working yet this year for #mubb
