This is doubly true for the kids, and even more so considering that Israel sees itself as a democracy. We should hold it to that high standard. (9/9)

But to not apply the same standard to Palestinians being held by Israel, to not celebrate their return to their families, especially when it comes to children, is just the same. (8/n)

We really do need to celebrate the hostages being home: they are innocent civilians, who were brutally attacked. To not do so is both morally repugnant and intellectually dishonest. (7/n)

These conditions are clearly far worse than the ones hostages are subject to under Hamas. That's quite the reality, considering that most folks (incl me, for the record) consider Hamas a brutal and cruel organization. (6/n)

Conditions for some Palestinian prisoners have been made absolutely abominable: eight or more to tiny dark cells, chained to the floor, a hole in the floor as a toilet, and (get this) the Israeli anthem being played 24/7. (5/n)

Most are being held under 'adminstrative' detention, meaning that they are not being charged and have no real ability to defend themselves in court. (4/n)

Far more Palestinians have been arrested in the West Bank since the start of the war than have been released under this deal. Many of them have been arrested for speech that offends Israel, or for extremely minor offenses. (3/n)

While pictures and video of released hostages is being seen DVD and celebrated around the world, the Israeli government has made it illegal for Palestinians being released to celebrate in the same way and to talk to the foreign press, under threat of rearrest. (2/n)

Yeah. The fact that people don't get that one can hold both the positions 'armed resistance is justifiable' and 'what Hamas did on Oct 7 is not justifiable' is really something. Complexity is hard, I guess?
