On Golden Pond (1980) Hepburn and H. Fonda gave such heartfelt performances and absolutely earned their best actor/actress Oscars. On top of that, the real life tensions between Jane and Henry as father and daughter, makes this such a special snapshot in time.

Great timing, I'm rewatching Mission Impossible movies ahead of the upcoming final release!
I watched MI4: Ghost Protocol last night and it's such a fun ride. That opening scene with the prison break sets the tone for the whole movie and the heist to come. Love it!

Did I like "Babel"? Not sure! 😅
2h 20m of waiting for bad things to happen to a great cast, in 3 interconnected stories.
I'm glad I finally watched it, but I'll likely never watch it again. But it did make me want to watch more movies with Kôji Yakusho!

Ghost Dog - The Way of the Samurai
What a cool, unique, kinda chill movie. This one won't be for everybody, but I really dug it.

Westward The Women - I was happy to see one other member chose this movie as well for our Directions challenge!
100+ women crossing the country in wagons to build a new life (and pick a husband based off a photo). While absolutely kicking ass and working together.

I watched "The Hunger Games" (2012) to complete the fire challenge. It remains the best in the whole series. Katniss is the girl on 🔥

LILO & STITCH (2002)
Can a creature that was genetically created to be evil and destroy everything in its path, become good AND learn to surf and find an Ohana? Of course!

The Boy And The Heron - Getting to watch a Miyazaki film for the first time feels like inviting Totoro over for a nap—warm, a little magical, and endlessly comforting. It’s both familiar and entirely new, like a story you somehow already know but can’t wait to hear.

Predestination was recommended by some friends and this was great! Always enjoy Ethan Hawke, and Sarah Snook was excellent.

There's bound to be a dud now and then, and "The Hunting Party - 1971 was not great.
Gritty and gory, but far too much exploitation of women, and just all round bad characters. A waste of a stellar cast.
Sorry Gene, I might need a Royal Tennenbaum palate cleanser..

The Red Shoes (1948) felt like an easy pick this week! Gorgeous film, and it was oozing Criterion Collection vibes. 😀

The Dressmaker (2015)
If it wasn't for this movie challenge, I never would watched this little gem!

One of my all time favorite rom-coms, "It Happened One Night" (1934). Quite the dynamic duo if there ever was one, and so many movies and TV shows have borrowed from it for 91yrs! If you haven't seen it, give it a watch.

Couldn't get much more road-centric then this one! Solid story, a bit trope-ee at times and a whole lotta dudes being dudes. Enjoyed it quite a bit!

Two films this week.
1. Detainment (2018) - an Irish short film about the murder of James Bulger. It's such a tragic true story and it brought me back to when this happened.
2. A Real Pain (2024) - 90min buddy comedy/drama full of feelings and banter. Kieran = great

"The Verdict" with best supporting actor nominee, James Mason, going head to head with Paul Newman in this superb courtroom drama.
Acting was excellent, shots were great. It's been on my list for a long while, and it didn't disappoint.

Marty (1955)
I started by looking up what was the best film from 1955 and this gem popped up. I'd never even heard of it and now it's a new favorite. Ernest Borgnine is just great in this lovely little movie about love and loneliness in New York.

It felt like an obvious choice because my husband had never seen it, so I went with Bladerunner this week. Moody, great lighting, and of course Harrison and Rutger are just wonderful.
