Online safety is an essential conversation, especially for young people who are still learning how to navigate digital spaces. While AI can be useful, it is also creating new risks if not properly understood or managed. graphic with text: How AI can increase online risk AI can be misused in ways that increase harm to young people, including: Grooming and manipulation Deepfakes or fake nude images Pressure to share intimate images Exposure to harmful or misleading content A 2025 study found that over 70% of teens have used AI chatbots, with 1 in 3 reporting friendships or emotional connections with them. This week is National HIV Testing Week!
At Basis Yorkshire, we’re here to support your choices around sexual health whether you want information, help accessing a test or someone to talk to about what the result might mean. Leeds Sexual Health are also at the office every Wednesday between 1-3pm!

Many people do not get tested because of misinformation, fear or low perceived risk. However, HIV often does not present symptoms at first. In the UK, 42% of people with HIV are diagnosed late. This is often because they do not perceive themselves to be at risk. You should test more often if you: Have new or multiple partners Don’t always use condoms Share injection equipment Testing is quick, confidential and often free. We are pleased to hear that the Scottish Government have rejected the Prostitution (Offences and Support) (Scotland) Bill at Stage 1. This Bill proposed introducing client criminalisation laws in Scotland.

For Sexual Violence and Abuse Awareness Week, we are raising awareness for sexual violence and abuse.

At Basis Yorkshire, we provide tailored, non-judgemental support to those affected by sexual violence whether or not it has been reported to the police.

Sexual violence is any sexual act, attempt to obtain a sexual act, or other act directed against a person's sexuality using coercion, by any person regardless of their relationship to the victim or setting Currently, figures demonstrate that 1 in 4 women have been raped or sexually assaulted since the age of 16 There are so many voices that go unheard and this week is aimed at amplifying them. Through this, it aims at challenging societal norms, stereotypes, and misconceptions surrounding sexual violence and abuse while providing a platform for survivors to share their stories and find support. No one ever deserves to face violence in their workplace. 2.If they didn’t scream, try to run away or fight back then it wasn’t sexual violence Because of the body’s natural survival response to fear, many survivors are unable to move or speak during an assault. This is why there may be no visible injuries or signs of resistance. 3. If they’d really been raped or sexually abused then it wouldn’t have taken them so long to say something. There are several other myths and harmful narratives about sexual violence and abuse that distort public understanding and can lead survivors to feel shame or self-blame. graphic with text that reads: The impact of sexual violence can be long term and affect many areas of a survivor’s life. There is no ‘right or wrong’ way to respond to sexual violence nor is there a timeline for ‘getting over’ it. Survivors deserve understanding, support and compassion.

Homelessness is often seen through a one-size-fits-all lens, but the reality for women sleeping rough is complex, hidden, and deeply personal. Leeds’ third annual Women’s Rough Sleeping Census was carried out in September 2025.
