@iammuggs.bsky.social morning Muggs! A little late in replying to your Devin/Royal Republic segue but it worked for me, mostly because for me RR can do no wrong 😍

Bringing things up to date, Royal Republic on Friday. As I said, it's been a good year for gigs and seeing these guys again helped. Another great band with a set full of bangers but I never fail to be amazed by Stop Movin'. A one-riff, one-line genius of a song with dynamics doing all the work

And then in April, the gig of the year so far: DeWolff. What a band! They put a huge amount of energy into old-school influences (late 60s/early 70s rock & soul) which they clearly love. Delivering such a full live show as a three-piece is just remarkable.

Also in March, the Von Hertzen Brothers and the reformed Temperance Movement. VHB played a long show with no support which was great. They have always been a consistently excellent live band and they didn't disappoint. TTM showed they hadn't lost that same quality despite their break.

My intention of posting after each gig I attend didn't last long(!) which is annoying because it's been a cracking year. Sturgill Simpson in March was the most interesting so far, almost a three-hour show with lots of country, a little bluegrass and a bigger heap of rocking out than I expected.

In 1998 my life changed when I saw Rocket From The Crypt for the first time. Although it was a great *band*, it wouldn't have existed without John Reis. And then he helped give us Hot Snakes, which genuinely changed the types of music I listen to.

‘We said yes to everything!’ John Reis on his blistering punk career, from Hot Snakes to Rocket from the Crypt
He went from San Diego’s DIY scene to mega-budget albums and Top of the Pops. Now, grieving late bandmate Rick Froberg, he explains why he’s still punk’s hardest worker

And my second post is about the mighty Kvelertak who were at SWX Bristol last night. Really good band although down from three guitarists to two. Cracking sound too

My first post here is in celebration of a great gig by Green Lung. To go from a pretty full gig at Thekla in Bristol to a sold out(?) gig at the Marble Factory in less than 18 months is good going. Looking forward to seeing them again on a bigger stage at @atgfestival.bsky.social in August💚👹
