Media specialist. Birdwatcher. Trekkie. Lover of the human imagination. In grad school now.
Started my first ever media specialist job, and first ever education job, today. Trying to get this new space into shape! Going to need some student volunteers to catalog the books, they're still boxed up. So much to do! #librarian #mediaspecialist #schoollibrarian #educator

Most children's books this old (1936) don't hold up to modern audiences.
But this one does. "The Story of Ferdinand" by Leaf and Lawson.
It still has so much to say about gender and peace, ~90 years later.
I think about it whenever I think about my type of masculinity. #librariansky #childrenslit

The library of Congress publishes a guide on a database standard used in libraries, MARC. Its web design, according to archive.org, was first implemented in 2004.
MARC was first invented in the 1960's.
I love how delightfully archaic but functional everything about this is.

"Be creative".
My library professor has no idea the can of worms she opened with that directive. The title of the project is "Internet Self Defense".

What am I going to do with all this beautiful smelling, calming flower?
Experiment: adding lavender and mint to french press coffee brew. Will it be terrible?

No, those are big enough to store one pound of tea. But lavender is lighter. This is how much space it takes up.

I bought a pound of food grade lavender flowers from harney and sons. Good price, great quality from earlier small orders. Figured these two new mason jars could store it.

I wish my job was just getting insects out of bark while rocking a fantastic hairstyle.

Ooh I love the second one, partially because it's also very similar to one of the only subjects I ever tried painting. This was a high school class and I was bad at painting, but maybe this bad art could encourage someone to try something that they're also bad at.

I learned, too late, that I'm not immune to the addictive nature of Balatro.

It IS gambling. (Fake money only, though.) I didn't know I could get hooked on a gambling game, but the fact that there IS also strategy really got into my brain.

DON'T START THIS GAME IF YOU'RE BUSY.

I was struck by the poetry of "Blood, Dairy, and Ice Cream," then I realized that all of these types of stain remover are also perfect song titles. Which musical acts would write each song?

If I could get to this reading room in 30 minutes instead of 2.5 hours. I'd get through my To Read list so much faster. Rose Reading Room at the flagship New York Public Library on 42nd street. #nypl #libraries

Some recent reads of mine. Been so busy with a class that I truly haven't had the mental energy to read YA. But I've been slowly getting through picture books that I heard of in my children's lit class. And one that I heard of on Bluesky!
