I'd say it's half and half. On one hand they are doing unprecedentedly evil shit on the other hand this is an administration that's working off clearly unstable foundations for a dictatorship. All they've been able to do is really just feed the base hate, but that only works for campaigning.

It's really telling this line of thought ignores or downplays the fact this is less being a stranded at airport and more you've been sent somewhere and they throw you into a supermax, despite not being a criminal at all.

It might be projecting on your end. The key difference especially as someone old enough to remember Iraq too, is that Iraq had to be sold to the people, and was done so in an optimal atmosphere of fear. The tariffs haven't been sold all that well at, in an atmosphere were the economy is/was fine.

I believe you. How can you compel or convince people of authoritarian measures being 'necessary' when your own government done made some seriously self-inflicted wounds, and operates like they cannot be touched so work with open barely veiled cruelty.
