UK Based American comedian Reginald D Hunter who, at the 2024 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, made a joke comparing an abusive wife to the state of Israel. he was heckled by Israelis in the crowd and then pursued in a civil case by "Campaign Against Antisemitism" - a charity that accused Hunter of sending offensive social media messages to a campaigner on three occasions in August and September 2024. On 23 December 2025, District Judge Michael Snow dismissed the summons, ruling that the prosecution was "abusive". 1. Improper Motive: The judge stated that the CAA’s "true and sole motive" was to have the comedian "cancelled" rather than to seek justice. 2. Lack of Candour: The court found the CAA had "misled" the judge by providing a "wholly inadequate" and "partial" summary of the events. Failure to Disclose: The CAA failed to inform the court of an ongoing compliance investigation into the charity by the Charity Commission. 3. Weaponisation of Courts: Hunter’s legal team argued that the CAA was "weaponising" the legal system for a political agenda.
