My IPS mod for the #MegaDuck Super Junior Computer finally got a frame to hold the GBP Q5 display.
It also locks against the adapter PCB and creates a good tight fit ^^

Now I need to find a nice way to access the OSD without the capacitive-pads (inconvenient)

Seems like it would benefit from a GUI to draw those on the screen area instead

It's playable! 💚

Wait's over. We're about to reveal, entry by entry (and in no particular order), the final #gbcompo25 shortlist!

Those 19 games will be the ones competing for prizes and they will be ranked in the final leaderboard.

Stick around till the end of the thread… we have a special surprise for everyone!

Nice! Very crisp screen and printing results

Once the game is out I'll try to make a TTF and release it as free/public domain.

It's in the same family as (and sort of hybridized from) my earlier Canyon Racer pixel fonts (also free/public domain)

Me: Trying to finish a (rather delayed) very basic game showing how to use the Game Boy 4-player adapter

My brain: How about you make a new 8x8 pixel font just for this trivial game instead of finishing your code

...

#font #gameboy #pixelart
zoomed in screenshot showing a 26 letter 8x8 pixel art font that is white with a 1 pixel black outline. some of the font features: diagonal slants on the ascenders or descenders, diagonal notching cut out of the bottom left corners, hard-squarish upper left corners

Which piece did you eat?

Also, happy 401st birthday :)

I love how much of an eyesore this is

I hope my usb ibuffalo snes pad makes it that long. It's halfway there and has held up well. It's pretty much perfect use wise.

The D-Pad on my 8bitdo M30 is already creaking after just a few years.

If you find a version that works, let me know.

Looks like cc1 is bundled into GBStudio and there isn't a way to swap it out.

That's too bad since changing it might be a good way to determine if it was just cc1 causing the problems and if an older version (from an earlier gbdk) would fix the issue.

I'm only an organizer for gb compo and not a judge, but I still try to play all the games.

GB Compo entrants - I have now played through all ~119 of your games! Thank you for participating and making so many cool and delightful games / tools / music! Had a lot of fun!

Following curiosity can lead to interesting places and turn out useful in ways that couldn't have been predicted (though it may take years to come to fruition). At least that's what I tell myself when down similar kinds of rabbit holes.

Great points and a good resource!

Most of this matches what we've seen/use in the gbcompo jams too. Including the number of dubious APKs that show up with total disregard for rules. Our list rules has gotten so long though.

Cool, thanks for sharing. Didn't realize crowd supply did a buy after it reached funding.

That was a big bump in the last few days, any idea if there was particular coverage driving it?

Noting this (cc1 is part of gbdk, but not sure if this is a gbstudio level problem). Seen others mention it.

On windows that error may mean some process still has the file open. Perhaps cc1 is hanging or the build is canceled before it can finish and it doesn't exit right

Code readability is important, but it's separate from (and often does not capture) _why_ code may be implemented a certain way and other context lurking in the background and influencing design (such as algorithmic tradeoffs, hardware behavior, etc). Especially when closer to the metal.

Didn't realize it had a port, impressive!

Did a brief search and didn't see GBC rom hacks to increase frame rate. The FPS is playable, but 2x seems like it would be a nice improvement. Appears to run about 5 fps (2-3 redraw and 10-12 calculate).

Also interesting the 3d is 1bpp, less bytes perhaps.

That integration looks awesome, love a good peripheral in a game

Your comment about mouse support was exactly what came to mind after playing a round of it :)
