1/4 Delighted to share our latest preprint "Future heatwave conditions inhibit CO2-induced stomatal closure in wheat". We found that high CO2, high VPD heatwave treatment prevents stomatal responses to light, super-elevated CO2 and nitrogen fertiliser application. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Our latest! K63-polyUb of the ERECTA receptor kinase by PUB30/31 is required for the ligand induced receptor endocytosis for stomatal patterning. Our results show that ERECTA signals at the PM. Congrats, Liangliang, Minh & the team🌱!

Today at SEB 2025, we have an exciting #LICOR workshop looking at plant gas exchange across scales🌿🌾💦🌏. Environmental scientist Ian Smillie will introduce cutting-edge technologies that enable leaf to ecosystem level measuring of plant performance. #photosynthesis #stomata @sebiology.bsky.social

Really looking forward to SEB 2025 in Antwerp this week. A really interesting #photosynthesis session tomorrow, followed by a #stomata session on Wednesday (I'll be co-chairing with @casparchater.bsky.social). Then on Thursday, #LICOR have a gas exchange workshop. @sebiology.bsky.social

Happy to share details of an online seminar I'll be taking part in tomorrow where I'll discuss #stomata. This will include evolution, biotechnology and "sensing" of stomata (including drone data capture). It's an early start, from 7.30am UK time - so don't forget to grab coffee ☕️. Login details 👇

RIPE Researchers, in work done for the CABBI Project, demonstrated that increasing the Rubisco enzyme in C4 crops like sorghum and sugar cane increases photosynthesis and yield as well!

Their work was published in the National Academy of Sciences proceedings.
Adapting C4 photosynthesis to atmospheric change and increasing productivity by elevating Rubisco content in sorghum and sugarcane | PNAS
Meta-analyses and theory show that with rising atmospheric [CO2], Rubisco has become the greatest limitation to light-saturated leaf CO2 assimilati...

I have a PAID 6 weeks undergraduate summer internship in my lab. You'll use #FRET #biosensors, #confocal #microscopes, and #RaspberryPi to try to discover how low humidity affects leaf development. @sheffieldpps.bsky.social @rmsearlycareer.bsky.social

If you want to present your latest #stomata research at SEB 2025, there are only 4 days until the submission deadline(7th of March)!! Excitingly, @casparchater.bsky.social and I can now also announce a brand new Workshop focused on measuring gas exchange across scales with @li-corenv.bsky.social👇👇

We showed that additional sulphur often enhanced wheat performance, whereas differences associated with nitrogen application rate were not readily detectable. The application of sugar to soils often hindered performance. @ukri.org @sheffielduni.bsky.social

Really glad to finally share this work. The first research conducted with @drhollycroft.bsky.social, in collaboration with ADAS UK. We used #optical and #thermal data from #drones together with ground measurements to map #wheat🌾 traits and fluxes. @sheffieldpps.bsky.social

Here at @rothamsted.bsky.social we are fortunate to have a very large area of GM glasshouse. Here we are growing up enough plants to transform 18 different constructs, optimising the accumulation of EPA&DHA omega-3 fish oils. Camelina is the ideal crop for such an iterative approach.

Only 2 weeks to go until the deadline for talk and poster abstracts for SEB 2025. @casparchater.bsky.social and I are really looking forward to hosting keynotes @proftlawson.bsky.social, Dr John Ferguson and Dr Lorna McAusland for a session on #stomata and #crops. @sebiology.bsky.social Please RT!!

Another great job opportunity
@BristolBioSci. This one is a lectureship in evolutionary biology, and we are looking for an academic lead to our MSc in bioinformatics, so genomics and phylogenetics will be strong cards to play!
