The physical and mental impact of being routinely, consistently, and violently swept away are profound.

That’s why we’re taking the City to court to challenge the unconstitutional ban on daytime sheltering.

It means that every day, thousands of people have no accessible, safe shelter.

With nowhere to stay and nowhere to go, at 8am every day, people are forced to pack up and carry their homes and belongings and keep moving. If they don’t they are forcibly displaced.

Homelessness is at an all-time high. The real numbers far exceed the 2025 count of 5,232 for the GVA, with just over half – 2,715 – within Metro Vancouver. Yet there are approximately only 1,400 shelter beds in the city, which often have restrictions making them inaccessible.

We need to look past the tents and stand with the people who are relying on them to survive.

Will you donate today?

If we win this case, unhoused residents will stay connected with services, have others around them to stay safe, and have better access to what they need to survive. When faced with the reality that they cannot clear encampments, cities will be forced to direct resources towards long-term solutions.

People who do set up shelter are subject to constant harassment, surveillance and violence by City workers, Park Rangers, and the Vancouver Police Department.

We are taking a stand against this affront to our shared dignity and taking the City of Vancouver to court.

You can measure how free and thriving a democracy is by how it treats its most marginalized and vulnerable individuals.

The City's bylaws currently ban people from sheltering outdoors from 8am to dusk. If you're sick, have a disability, or are caught out in the pouring rain, too bad – keep moving.
