Probably my favourite new film of the weekend was the indie darling Good Boy, a horror film shot from the perspective of a dog. Its another example of why 2025 really is the year of the horror film. My thoughts below.

Good Boy (2025)
It is great when a horror movie can be genuinely unnerving and creepy (so few are) and there is a tone to Good Boy that achieves this. Perh...

I'd be happy for June Squibb to live forever and keep making movies cause I always love seeing her on the big screen, even when the movie like Eleanor the Great, Scarlett Johansson's directoral debut, is rather mid. My thoughts below.

On this National Day of Truth and Reconciliation I continue my 2025 Canadian Film Rewatch project with a new film, coming to cinemas soon, from the director of Wildhood is the powerful At the Place of Ghosts featuring a beautiful score from Jeremy Duthcer.

A ★★★★ review of At the Place of Ghosts (2025)
- after his amazing film Wildhood, writer/director Bretten Hannam has been a film maker on my radar - his ambitious new film Sk+te’kmujue’katik (At the Place of Ghosts) is powerful and beautiful to wa...

Only one film at the festival today, but it was a banger. I loved the new adaptation of Kiss of the Spider Woman, mostly because I'm now obsessed with breakout star Tonatiuh! Lopez is stunning too. My thoughts below.

I took a pause in my film festival schedule to catch a film in mainstream cinemas and I'm going to push back against the critics that are being harsh on this. While not perfect I found Him to be a strong debut by a new film maker with a bold voice.

A couple days into CIFF and here are my thoughts on some of the films I saw so far. First up Park Chan-wook's latest film, the black comedy No Other Choice. Shout out to the Canadian screenwriter Don McKellar who worked on this film.

My go-to Robert Redford comfort movie (also miraculously featuring Poitier, Phoenix, Aykroyd, McDonnell, Stathairn, Kingsley) to honour a great actor, human, and one of the handsomest men to ever light up the silver screen.

Last night I saw what is easily going to be one of my favourite movies of the year, a film that I left completely shook. Below are my thoughts. I don't get into spoilers until the end with warnings so stop reading there if you haven't seen it yet.

Summer is ending so I thought I'd continue my 2025 Universal Monsters Rewatch Project with the most summery of the series, Creature From the Black Lagoon. While the other films are shot in moonlight, this one is mostly in the sun. My thoughts below.
