Okay, I still don't see why that is worse.

Yes, there are disputes during virtually every major election, but once an election is called for a candidate, the result is pretty much set. I'm not aware of any case where the result has changed after being called, and the call is usually made a few hours after polling closes.

The Senate is elected to 6 year terms and 2 senators to a state. The House is made up of 435 representatives that are distributed to states based on the census. Those representatives are elected every 2 years and are often the focus of "gerrymandering" to try and dilute the power of voters.

We usually know the results within a few hours as well, but the Electoral College is a relic from the days of slavery that does need to be abolished. It was implemented to convince slave states to rejoin the Union after the Civil War.

Aside from having a federal election agency, it doesn't sound much different from the U.S. system. States are in charge of their own elections and many do have an independent districting commission. Our federal agencies are supposed to be independent, yet Trump has had no problem manipulating them.

On paper it is, even if the reality doesn't quite match.
February 4, 2026 at 11:26 AM
It's both. They're not mutually exclusive. A republic is when people are empowered through voting. A direct democracy would involve voting on most policy individually. A representative democracy is when officials are elected to vote on our behalf.

The U.S. is a representative democracy. That is why our system is designed the way it is and why Republicans are so determined to rig the midterms. I think the biggest flaw in our system is a lack of recall elections. Senators and Presidents are too insulated.

The Electoral College is a relic that never should've been created in the first place. We never would've had a first Trump term without it.

It is diminishing. Very slowly...
February 4, 2026 at 12:47 AM
I don't follow the logic in that. It's unconstitutional anyway, but Trump has had no problem manipulating national agencies. Why would an electoral one be any different? Agencies and legislatures split across 50 different states insulates them from a singular point of manipulation.

It's also impossible through any legitimate means. This is gearing up for polling location interference and trying to jam through the SAVE Act.

I loved the N64, and I'm probably gonna get hate for this, but the controller design SUCKED. The SNES got the basics right, and the Playstation Dualshock evolved it elegantly for 3D.

Ugh. *exaggerate*

Amplify rather. Not exagerrate.
February 3, 2026 at 6:27 PM
I was trying to exaggerate the ridiculousness.
February 3, 2026 at 6:25 PM
That percentage likely has no clue what they're voting for and are just basing it on name recognition. Literally, the thought process is "I recognize the name, they must be good." That's why we have so many celebrities run for office.

Define "party."

"News"max had some whiny ass crying about Bruce Springsteen's recent ICE song. They are not news.
February 3, 2026 at 6:13 PM
It's looking that way, but even if he loses Congress and is ousted in 2029(I will be utterly shocked if he gets removed before, even with House and Senate majorities), it's not going to end with Trump. We still have a thoroughly-corrupt Republican party and SCOTUS to deal with.

He doesn't have near the power he wants you to think he does. Not yet. Don't submit to that thinking.
February 3, 2026 at 5:07 PM
Each state needs to have one, and Democrats did infact try to pass something along those lines a few years back. It was blocked, of course.

Don't fall into the trap of social media and news headlines. There's definitely a lot of serious shit going on, but there's also a lot standing in his way.
February 3, 2026 at 5:00 PM
It's not as simple as that and especially not as fast as the midterms. The real concern is the SAVE Act getting passed and interference at polling locations. "Nationalizing" elections is just bluster and distraction.
