4/4 This suggests that interventions to improve memory flexibility and specificity could reduce the probability that students, or other individuals, would develop depression, even if they have experienced negative events.

3/4 Poor memory flexibility and specificity increased the likelihood of depression in response to stress, whereas good specificity and flexibility reduced the probability the students would experience depression in response to negative life events.

2/4 The paper demonstrates that autobiographical memory specificity and autobiographical memory flexibility modified the link between negative life events and rates of major depression at one-year follow up.
