It works pretty well. Hard maple is hard. I’m gonna need a knee pad because ffs I’m old.
Also did a piece of cherry, and that was bloody easy. Five more pieces of maple to cut though. 😭

Squaring this 3ft pine (!!!) lamination for a saw bench top convinced me I need a jointer plane for anything bigger - like the Roubo workbench and garden door that are next on the list.

Today: Claimed the workshop for the Ninth House, reorganized the tool board (again), mounted random things, made a shop towel holder, made a spring clamp holder, prototyped a try square holder with magnets, … actually got to saw, plane and glue some stuff, so I’m happy.

Today I’m moving shop. Out of the closet into a real woodshop. Honestly not sure how I’m going to move all this stuff I’ve acquired in the last few months. I guess like Johnny Cash said, once piece at a time.

Well it ain’t exactly square (but it is level!) and it sure ain’t pretty to look at, and I *am* sick of looking at it, so calling this good enough for now. Have some ideas for making it nicer, but for now: the saws are tilled.

On the one hand, pleased with how straight my cuts are here. On the other hand, clearly grain direction and density and too much torque on the cherry was too much.
On the gripping hand, gave me some useful and unexpected design feedback.
A good exercise, and a useful lesson.

Pleased I remembered the double sided tape trick - and had even bought tape a month ago! - for squaring ends together.
