I'm torn on Frome daylighting - on the one hand it's the sort of transformational project that could drive massive regeneration, but it's not cheap! Also increasingly radicalized against anything that isn't 'can my kids safely cycle from south to north Bristol!'

Not loving a rainfall colour scheme where red is wetter than blue!

So much to love here, and an awful lot of 'yeah, no shit!'

Just crazy that a handful of obsessed people can have this impact

Sure, but 'We should leave NATO and disarm', while longstanding Green policy, doesn't exactly scream serious in the current geopolitical context

It's like a geopolitical Ashes, always hoping to wake up to calm, always somehow waking up to things being worse

I think that if you dress it up in self defence/plucky UK rhetoric you could get quite a long way. But would need some good story-telling, and it's a lot harder given how splintered the information environment is.

With a Latino global mega star doing the halftime slot - feels like some deliberate choices there!

Quite like that as an analogy! Most voters stick in one blob, smaller blobs of voters move around, occasionally voting blobs crash into each other and get absorbed. . .

It's bizarre to me (in the UK, granted), that the culmination of the whole season is. . .a Monday in mid January

Somerset at 4 is deranged, and I say that from Bristol!
December 14, 2025 at 5:17 PM
Idle thoughts - I wonder if there are links to the steady stream of 'you can do anything you put your mind to', and individualism more widely. If you internalise that properly then *not* being in your ideal position means you've failed, so lots of anger and resentment finding easy targets.

Yes! And Bognor Regis is in Cumbria, no matter how many maps you show me that say it's near Portsmouth. . .
December 10, 2025 at 11:48 AM
Yeah it's trying very hard isn't it
December 4, 2025 at 9:26 PM
Yes! Just a top tier word

Adopting 'rock farm' from now on!

Also some words are just better - despues, and dedans are just comfortably better than any alternatives

Not to mention that networks of family abroad, and remittances are often a really important factor enabling rebuilding and recovery after disasters, so the ripple effects are wide
December 1, 2025 at 12:31 PM
Aah, that makes more sense!
November 27, 2025 at 9:23 AM
That's an amazing chart - productivity about the same as 1810?!
