I'm torn on Frome daylighting - on the one hand it's the sort of transformational project that could drive massive regeneration, but it's not cheap! Also increasingly radicalized against anything that isn't 'can my kids safely cycle from south to north Bristol!'

I think that if you dress it up in self defence/plucky UK rhetoric you could get quite a long way. But would need some good story-telling, and it's a lot harder given how splintered the information environment is.

And in so many different contexts as well! Works well for UK homelessness, works well in disaster recovery, works well in classic poverty reduction programmes. But there's a weird moral hazard hangover associated with it still.

But 'something quite different from' implies that actually there *is* something there beyond just 'I want the job'. Might not be easy to label, but he does come across as having some kind of ideology

Idle thoughts - I wonder if there are links to the steady stream of 'you can do anything you put your mind to', and individualism more widely. If you internalise that properly then *not* being in your ideal position means you've failed, so lots of anger and resentment finding easy targets.
